PP Test : Pencil and Paper Test

CISC manoeuvres involve various resources: attention, memory, motor strategies, coordination, learning capacities and elementary functions such as motor, sensory and visual resources.

Ability to handle and open the packing, clasp the catheter, orient the catheter toward the meatus, introduce the catheter within the urethra, and withdraw it, is naturally essential for a correct CISC.

We checked the different steps of the CISC manoeuvres and have developed a simple test mimicking these gestures by means of common manoeuvres.

Thus, we have created the ‘Pencil and Paper test’ (PP test) with respect to three other criteria: a quick test to be used in routine consultation; a simple test without the need of specific tools to carry it out; and an easy to perform test feasible by every care giver (medical doctors, nurses, ..).

The « instruments » necessary to perform PP test are a sheet of paper and a pencil (20 cm of length) with a horizontal section of about 0.5 cm diameter.
